WHAT IS A CERTIFIED TRANSLATION?

A certified translation service refers to an officially recognised translation of a document, allowing one to present this documentation to authorities in the United Kingdom as well as abroad. Avitas Translations Ltd are an authorised agency and are Accredited to ISO1700 in quality management specialising in providing officially authorised and certified translation services in more than 200 languages.

In the United Kingdom, a certified translation means that the translation agency such as ourselves, has issued an officially signed statement of truth, declaring that the completed translation is an accurate and true representation of the original document provided to them.  Certified translations are generally needed when submitting legal documents to official institutions such as the UK Home Office or Courts of Law.

ARE THERE DIFFERENT LEVELS OF CERTIFICATION?

Generally speaking there are 3 different levels of Certification available.  Each of which we can cater for here at Avitas Translations however each further level of certification will carry additional fees and timescales ( usually out of our control and set by 3rd parties ).

Certification

This is the Standard level of certification and is sufficient in most cases in the UK.  The translation will be stamped and signed by a recognised professional or agency stating the accuracy.  This level of Certified Translation will be legally acceptable to any UK Government body or official Institution such as Universities and Courts of Law.

Notarization

One stage further from a Certified Translation is known as a Notarised Translation.  This means that the Certified Translation is then signed in the presence of a Notary Public who also signs and seals the document legally.  This service is sometimes requested for certain legal proceedings and always in the case of the documents being presented abroad.

Legalization (Apostille)

In some cases and if the translation is to be presented to an overseas body such as a Foreign Embassy, a Legalisation or Apostille may be required.  This is when the Notarised and Certified Translation is sent to the Foreign Commonwealth Office for validation.   The FCO Stamp and sign the document and attach an official Apostille.  This legalised translation can then be presented to any country signed up to the Hague convention.

Do you offer Notarisation?

Here at Avitas Translations, we offer 3 levels of Certified Translation.

2 – Notarised Translation – Signed and stamped in front of a Notary Public who also seals and signs the document.

How long does a Certified Translation take and how much does a Certified Translation cost?

This is almost like asking how long is a piece of string as it can vary on how many documents are to be translated, the language combination and the level of Certification.  In general though, our Certified Translations start at £30 + vat and can be done the same day or within 24 hours if required using our Urgent service.
